All:
Colorado Water Well called to report the well pump at the Whitehall
well is currently non-functional. They are making arrangements to pull
the pump to determine what it will take to fix it, but that is not
expected to complete until next week. In the interim we are reduced to
operating with only the Piedmont well.
The only good news is the Piedmont well is our most productive well,
and has the larger storage tank. However our initial calculations
indicate it cannot handle the entire irrigation demand on its own. To
maximize our water distribution, we need to ensure that storage tank is
always filled by midnight, limiting the number of hours we can supply
water.
Being highly optimistic, we are scaling back our distribution hours to
between midnight and 8:00 am, effective immediately. If the Piedmont
well runs dry before 8:00 am, we will be forced to further reduce the
distribution time, by starting sometime after midnight. Regardless, it
is essential that all homeowners follow their two-day-a-week watering
schedule, so we can all use our shares.
Thanks,
Mark Derbyshire
PS. When we have reduced our operating schedule in the past, several
homeowners have voiced concerns about having to reprogram their
irrigation controllers to accommodate varying distribution times. There
is a reasonable solution to this problem. Instead of running through
each irrigation zone once during a watering night, many controllers can
be programmed to run multiple, shorter cycles. For example, instead of
running one cycle from midnight to 10:00 am, one could run five, two
hour cycles. This will provide more balanced watering to all irrigation
zones, even when the well distribution times change, without having to
reprogram timers.
