All:

We have scheduled the Holly Mutual Water Company's Shareholders'
Meeting for Friday, September 12, from 7 - 9 pm at the Cherry Hills
Village City Hall (Quincy & University). Please plan on attending
because we have important business to cover, including discussions of
recent system maintenance, the future of Holly Mutual, and the election
of new board members.

All five board positions are up for election. Carol Breeze and I are
willing to run for re-election should it please the shareholders, but
we will need at least three new candidates. Please consider
volunteering to serve as a board member, and please come to the
meeting. It is very important to achieve a quorum, because otherwise we
cannot elect the board members and would have to schedule another
meeting. If you are unable to attend, please assign a proxy (via a
signed document) to vote in your place. A proxy form and meeting
announcement/reminder will be mailed to you soon.

We have been fortunate this year to have a good amount of precipitation
and somewhat cooler weather than normal. Please remember to turn off
your sprinkler systems when we have a good rain storm, regardless of
whether you use Holly Mutual or Denver Water. We need to conserve the
water we have. In the past 24 hours we have had 1.2" of rain in our
neighborhood, and are already up to 10.4" for the year. There should be
no need to water for nearly the next week.

For anyone curious, one of our sons set up a weather station nine years
ago that provides minute-by-minute updates at the URL:

<http://www.taom.com/~weather/>

There is a complete archive of daily/monthy/yearly information, and a
number of interesting statistics, including precipitation and
evapotranspiration (ET). ET is an estimate of how much water plants
need after taking into account the local weather conditions (sun,
temperature, humidity, wind). This is calculated for Kentucky Bluegrass
in full sun, which has an unusually high water requirement. With
partially/fully shaded areas and more water friendly plants, the water
requirements should be much lower.

The website also shows the difference between precipitation and ET as
gray numbers and pointers on the precipitation dial graphs. A negative
difference indicates a water deficit for bluegrass that would need to
be made up by irrigation. Again, in many cases this will be more than
actually necessary.

Cheers,
Mark Derbyshire
