All:
We had another smooth year with Holly Mutual. Our overall usage was
significantly higher than normal, perhaps because of the hotter weather
and perhaps because we didn't reduce our distribution times in
mid-August, when our schedule indicated we should. Colorado Water Well
(CWW) reported last week that we're nearing our yearly pumping limit,
and thus we will have to shutdown the system. Our goal has always been
to distribute through September 30 each year, but for many years we've
made it to the end of October. Not this year, though.
CWW also mentioned there was an unexpected imbalance of water
distributed from the two wells - they are planning to troubleshoot this
mid-week. Hopefully this was simply caused by incorrect timer and
pressure settings, which can be changed for next year. Regardless, CWW
has already shut down the Piedmont well, and after their tests this
week, they will also shutdown the Whitehall well. Water will not be
available from Holly Mutual until April 16, 2023, which is our standard
activation date.
Please remember to tell your irrigation company to close the shutoff
valve for your property. CWW does maintenance on the wells during the
winter and occasionally pressurizes the distribution lines. If your
shutoff valve is left open, your property could conceivably be flooded
and your system could be damaged by the subsequent freezing of water in
your pipes. This has happened more than once.
Cheers,
Mark
