This is the sixth of thirteen email newsletters that I will be sending out regarding Colorado Chess. Each letter will be a report of the most recent CO tour events, a list of upcoming CO events, and any new general information about Colorado Chess. Results of Januarys CO Tour Events There were two CO Tour Events in the month of January, the 4th Al Ufer Memorial, and the 2009 Boulder Winter Grand Prix. In the open section at the Al Ufer, Kevin Seidler went a perfect 4/4 to win the tournament by a whole point. Trailing in 2nd-3rd were Paul Anderson and Klaus Johnson with 3.0/4. In the reserve section, Brady Barkmeyer won clear first with 3.5/4, David Spinozzi and Gerald Maier were just behind in 2nd-3rd with 3.0/4. Three weeks later was the Boulder Winter Grand Prix. In clear 1st place was GM Dashzegve Sharavdorj with 4.5/5. Tied for 2nd-4th were NM Tyler Hughes, FM Renard Anderson, and LM Brian Wall with 4.0/5. COLORADO CLOSED AND CLASS We have found a location for the Colorado Closed. Dr. Kamran Sahami in the Physics Department at Metro State has found a room on the Auraria Campus at a reduced cost. In addition to the Closed and Scholastic Closed, there will be class tournaments so that all players can play that weekend. The Closed and Scholastic Closed will be the same as last year, six-player round robins with time control 40/120 G/60. The highest six players who accept (March Supplement used) will play in the Closed. Here are the top twelve for each tournament. They can state their wish to play either by emailing me ( HYPERLINK "mailto:boulderchessclub@yahoo.com" boulderchessclub@yahoo.com) calling me, (303)854-7898, or sending me a letter 3605 Endicott Dr. Boulder, CO 80305. Likewise, if you are not on either of these lists and you feel like you should be, please contact me. There will be six sections at the Colorado Class (Expert: 2000+, Class A 1800-1999, Class B 1600-1799, Class C 1400-1599, Class D 1200-1399, Class E Under 1200). If any section has fewer than six players, it will be combined with another section. On the following page are the top 20 players eligible for both the Closed and the Scholastic Closed. I apologize if I missed anybody. If you are rated above 1955 for the open or 1484 for the scholastic for the March 2009 supplement and you think you are eligible, please contact me at once. You need to be a Colorado resident and have played at least six USCF-rated games (at least four of them in the state of Colorado) since the previous Closed. In a case where two players at the exact same rating, the tie is broken by how many games they have played in Colorado since the last Colorado Closed.
