1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 e6 3. d4 cxd4! 4. Nxd4! a6
5. Bd3 b5 6. O-O Bb7 7. a4! b4!

Played 15 times, first by Tom Wedburg vs Roman Dzindzichashvilli
New York Open, 1991, 1-0 31

8. Nd2 d6!

Played twice

9. Nc4!! TN

Theoeretical Novelty by Brian Wall

The idea is that 7 ... b4!
opened up a square for my QN
because most Sicilian players
don't like ... d5

Gm Alexander Ivanov played 9 a5!!!
isolating the b4-pawn.
Ioulia Makka played 9 Kh1! which I considered
but the b7-bishop gave me pause.

9 ... Nf6! 10. Qe2!!

Supporting d3, c4, e4
and preparing f4-e5

10 ... Be7 11. f4

11 a5 is a good space grab

11 ... Nbd7?? 12. e5!! dxe5! 13. fxe5! Nd5??

Parvesnahid is in major trouble making normal looking moves.
13 ... Bc5 14 Kh1!! B:d4 loses to
15 Nd6+! Kf8 16 N:b7 or ef

14. Nxe6!!

Wishing for the pretty Queen sac
14 N:e6 fe 15 Qh5+ g6 16 Q:g6+ hg 17 B:g6 checkmate

14 ... Qb8 15. Nxg7+!! Kd8! 16. Rxf7!!

Wipeout

16 ... Qa7+! 17. Kh1! Kc7 18. e6!!!

I am three pawns up with a safer King and many wins

18 ... N7f6 19. Qe5+!! Kd8! 20. Bg5

After 8 perfect moves I slow down to #2
The e7-bishop is barely plugging the dike so it's
not surprising that the top 3 moves take aim there
20 Nf5, Bg5 and R:e7

20 ... Rc8 21. Nf5

Missing a pretty weird mate with
21 Qd6+!!! B:d6 22 Rd7 checkmate
21 R:e7!! and Nd6!!
are strong normal moves

21 ... Rxc4 22. Nxe7

It's hard to count all the wins but the top three are
the simple 22 B:c4!!!!, the flashy 22 R:e7!!!!
and the workmanlike 22 N:e7!!!

22 ... Nxe7!!!

The only move to avoid immediate checkmate

23. Bxf6

Everything kills -
only 23 B:c4!!!!! or 23 Q:f6!!!!!
are slightly better

23 ... Bxg2+

Goes out swinging

24. Kxg2! Rg8+ 25. Kf3

25 Kf1???? Qg1+ 26 Ke2 Rg2+ 27 Kf3 Qf2 checkmate
would be a sick turnaround
25 Kh3!!! Kc8!!! 26 B:c4!!! Qa8!!! 27 Qe2!! Qg2+
28 Q:g2 is the quickest way to mate

25 ... Qb7+! 26. Be4! Rxe4 27. Bxe7+!

Hoping for 27 ... Q:e7 28 Qb8 checkmate

27 ... Kc8! 28. Qc5+!! Kb8 29. Bd6+!!

Mating
