That was a cool game! Love the grob!
I remember one time Cliff Daniels knew that he was going to be playing me in the
last round of the DCC monthly U1500 section. He knew that I was into playing
the grob at the time. So he spent the whole day preparing for it, then I ended
up getting the black pieces, and stomped him anyway.
One time I played Chris Mink in the grob. After the game he told me all this
"theory" that he knew about it. I was quite impressed that he had so much
booked up preparation against an opening hardly anyone plays!
I'm gonna be playing in the Boulder Open in two weeks. Team Raytheon is going
to be there with Shannon Fox and Pete Short.

This is what Moliere would say about spammers like me -
Moliere
Sir, These are delicate matters; we all desire
To be told that we've the true poetic fire.
But once, to one whose name I shall not mention,
I said, regarding some verse of his invention,
That gentlemen should rigorously control
That itch to write which often afflicts the soul;
That one should curb the heady inclination
to publicize one's little avocation;
And in showing off one's works of art
One often plays a very clownish part.

I played the following game on a very blustery, rainy day in Colorado Springs,
Colorado. I thought it sucked that that after winning the Colorado Closed I was
not paired with a worthy Grandmaster. I could not swallow the fact that I could
have beaten my opponentin my first rated tournament 39 years ago ( My first
rating was 1555). My frustration seemed to parallel the rain storm
outside that raged all day.

Two-move Checkmate Opening

I decided my opponent did not deserve a Chess move in the real sense of the word
and made the weakest move I could think of, one favored by Tim Brennan and the
Ponomarevs.

Blow, winds, and crack your cheeks! rage! blow!
You cataracts and hurricanoes, spout
Till you have drench'd our steeples, drown'd the cocks!
You sulphurous and thought-executing fires,
Vaunt-couriers to oak-cleaving thunderbolts,
Singe my white head! And thou, all-shaking thunder,
Smite flat the thick rotundity o' the world!
Crack nature's moulds, and germens spill at once,
That make ingrateful man!

To make Josh Bloomer ( sitting next to me ) laugh I played the Two-Move

Being well prepared in endgames and tactics means I can endure silly debuts.

I Can Sleep While The Wind Blows
Years ago a farmer owned land along the Atlantic seacoast. He constantly
advertised for hired hands. Most people were reluctant to work on farms along
the Atlantic. They dreaded the awful storms that raged across the Atlantic,
wreaking havoc on the buildings and crops.
As the farmer interviewed applicants for the job, he received a steady stream of
refusals. Finally, a short, thin man, well past middle age, approached the
farmer. "Are you a good farm hand?" the farmer asked him. Well, I can sleep
when the wind blows," answered the little man. Although puzzled by this answer,
the farmer, desperate for help, hired him.
The little man worked well around the farm, busy from dawn to dusk, and the
farmer felt satisfied with the man's work. Then one night the wind howled
loudly in from offshore. Jumping out of bed, the farmer grabbed a lantern and
rushed next door to the hired hand's sleeping quarters.
He shook the little man and yelled, "Get up! A storm is coming! Tie things down
before they blow away!" The little man rolled over in bed and said firmly, "No
sir. I told you, I can sleep when the wind blows."
Enraged by the response, the farmer was tempted to fire him on the spot.
Instead, he hurried outside to prepare for the storm. To his amazement, he
discovered that all of the haystacks had been covered with tarpaulins. The cows
were in the barn, the chickens were in the coops, and the doors were barred. The
shutters were tightly secured. Everything was tied down. Nothing could blow
away. The farmer then understood what his hired hand meant, so he returned to
his bed to also sleep while the wind blew.

When a spider is interrupted making a web he does not have the flexibility to
continue, he must start all over from scratch. Paul is probably a guy with one
defense against 1 e4 and one defense against 1 d4 and that's all he knows. In
response to my nonsense he is trying to play his favorite Najdorf or Dragon. He
is not thinking about his opening moves in the Bloomer sense, he is just
following one rule - develop my pieces in a familiar pattern - set up ye olde
battle formation.

A Note from the Pipes
Leonora Speyer
PAN, blow your pipes and I will be
Your fern, your pool, your dream, your tree!
I heard you play, caught your swift eye,
âA pretty melody!â called I,
âHail, Pan!â And sought to pass you by. 5
Now blow your pipes and I will sing
To your sure lipsâ accompanying!
Wild God, who lifted me from earth,
Who taught me freedom, wisdom, mirth,
Immortalized my bodyâs worth,â 10
Blow, blow your pipes! And from afar
Iâll comeâIâll be your bird, your star,
Your wood, your nymph, your kiss, your rhyme,
And all your godlike summer-time!

"Blow, wind, blow! And go, mill, go..."

4 ... Nd7?
Unnecessarily passive-
when he touched his knight I wrote
4 ... Nc6 on my scoresheet and had to correct it.
Maybe he is a Najdorf player and he knows that Kasparov preferred
3 ... Nd7 in case of 1 e4 c5 2 Nf3 d6 3 Bb5+
5. Ne2
to block ... Qh4+ with Ng3 -
I also have ideers of c3-d4 or
Ne2-g3-f5
It took me a while to drink in the fact that my knight would
have nowhere to go if I blocked the check with Ng1-h3-f2
I was worried about ... h5 but consoled myself with
the idea that Paul just doesn't make moves like that.
I was also worried about losing my bishop after ... a6.
5 d3 h5 could be met by 6 g5 but now I don't have that luxury
so 5 Ne2 h5! would be strong
I decided to swallow my pride, develop a piece and hope for the best.
It didn't seem like I could really meet all the threats with one move.

Blow Wind Blow
(by McKinley Morganfield)
When the sun rose this morning,
I didn't have my baby by my side.
When the sun rose this morning,
I didn't have my baby by my side.
I don't know where she was,
I know she's out with some other guy.
Don't the sun look lonesome
Shading down behind the trees?
Don't the sun look lonesome
Shading down behind the trees?
But don't your house look lonesome
When your baby's packed to leave.
Blow wind, blow wind, blow my baby back to me.
Blow wind, blow wind, blow my baby back to me.
Well you know if I don't soon find them,
I will be in misery.
Goodbye baby, that is all I have left to say.
Goodbye baby, that is all I have left to say.
But you have lost your good thing,
Go ahead and have your own way.

5 ... g6?
Maybe Paul is a Dragon clone or maybe he just didn't like ... Be7
6. c3
A practical decision. 6 d3 is better to answer 6 ... h5 with 7 g5
but I didn't think Paul could make a move like that and I wanted to
preserve my b5-bishop. 6 c3 is more lively.
6 ... Bg7?
Typically just developing instead of making special moves like
6 ... h5!!, ... Qh4+!, ... a6!, ... Bh6! or ... Qf6.
I am still paying the price for my Josh joke but he takes
the opening so seriously I had to do an intervention.
I noticed long ago comparing human and computer play that
homo sapiens have a HUGE prejudice for bring a new piece out
each move rather than thinking.
7. d3!
deciding against d4 as overloading my e2-knight
I finally have a decent response to ... h5
7 ... a6 8. Ba4
This was the plan I ingested when I played 6 c3 -
to swallow my King's bishop behind my pawn chain.
8 ... Ne7 9. Bg5
I liked this move a lot because I thought both 9 ... h6
and ... f6 would weaken Paul's Kingside castling position.
9 ... O-O 10. Qc1
This is where I ingurgitated the idea that I
bet I could win without using my QN or QR
10 ... Nf6
For a minute I worried about sacs on g4 -
Colorado Springs Dragon guys like Dean Brown and Richard Cordovano
love to make thematic, unsound Dragon sacs.
Somehow it didn't seem like Paul was going to do anything
daring except develop pieces on familiar squares.
11. Ng3
I had absorbed Hans Kmoch's Pawn Power in Chess long ago
where he discussed the Benoni hop with Nf5.
Paul should fight back in the center with 11 ... d5!

Let The Wind Blow!
Words by David Martin
There's a storm on the horizon
Oh let the wind blow
There is thunder in the heavens
Oh let the wind blow
Let the rain fall down from the sky above
Let the tempest roar til it's had enough
I'm trusting in the Lord of love
Let the wind blow
There is lightning in the distance
Oh let the wind blow
There is darkness all around me
Oh let the wind blow
Let the world give all the hurt it can
Let the evil one devise his plans
I'm trusting in the great I Am
Let the wind blow
Let the wind blow
Blow as hard as it can
Let the wind blow
Upon the solid rock of God I stand
Oh let the wind blow
There's a storm on the horizon
Oh let the wind blow
There is thunder in the heavens
Oh let the wind blow
Let its mighty fury be unleashed
Let the doubters fall upon their knees
I'm trusting in the prince of peace
Let the wind blow
Let the wind blow
Blow as hard as it can
Let the wind blow
Upon the solid rock of God I stand
Oh let the wind blow
Sung by the Imperials, from the Album "Let the Wind Blow"

Once I open the h-file all of Christenson's defenders will be sucked into the
vortex. I was thinking of a dream of 9 year old Isaac Martinez where two
vortexes in a room collapsed the walls.
Paul is using a King's Indian type maneuver to enforce ... f5.
My Two-Move Checkmate Opening is finally beginning to bear fruit.

The Beloved
By Katherine Tynan Hinkson (b. 1861)
BLOW gently over my garden,
Wind of the Southern sea,
In the hour that my Love cometh
And calleth me!
My Love shall entreat me sweetly, 5
With voice like the wood-pigeon;
âI am here at the gate of thy garden,
Here in the dawn.â
Then I shall rise up swiftly
All in the rose and grey, 10
And open the gate to my Lover
At dawning of day.
He hath crowns of pain on His forehead,
And wounds in His hands and feet;
But here mid the dews of my garden 15
His rest shall be sweet.
Then blow not out of your forests,
Wind of the icy North;
But Wind of the South that is healing
Rise and come forth! 20
And shed your musk and your honey,
And spill your odours of spice,
For one who forsook for my garden
His Paradise!

The Veery-Thrush
By Joseph Russell Taylor
BLOW softly, thrush, upon the hush
That makes the least leaf loud,
Blow, wild of heart, remote, apart
>From all the vocal crowd,
Apart, remote, a spirit note 5
That dances meltingly afloat,
Blow faintly, thrush!
And blind the green-hid waterfall
I heated for its beauty, and all
The unloved vernal rapture and flush, 10
The old forgotten lonely time,
Delicate thrush!
Spring âs at the prime, the world âs in chime,
And my love is listening nearly;
O lightly blow the ancient woe, 15
Flute of the wood, blow clearly!
Blow, she is here, and the world all dear,
Melting flute of the hush,
Old sorrow estranged, enriched, sea changed,
Breathe it, veery-thrush!

Title: Blow Wind Blow lyrics
Artist: Alannah Myles
Blow wind blow all my worries
Away from me
Blow wind blow a little heaven my way
Blow wind blow a little heaven my way
Day goes down
Upon this dirty little town
You gotta find another lonely soul
To share the night
So may you never end
All my sweet and ragged friends
Won't you raise your glass, your voice
And your will to fight
Cause your life belongs to you
Verse II:
Love's unkind
It'll make your heart unwind
You gotta send a message
To yourself to carry on
Burnt out and broke
Another romance in smoke
You better love a little bit of
Somethin' that'll make you strong
Here's a song to see you through
Yes a song will see you through
Chorus:
Blow wind blow all my worries
Away from me
Blow wind blow a little heaven my way
Blow wind blow a little heaven my way
2X
Solo:
Verse III:
Life comes true
In spite of,
Everything we do
You gotta, learn to love
When the joke is played on you
The great unknown
Will make you shiver to the bone
You wanna close your eyes
And pretend you're not alone
Here's a song to sing you home
Yes a song will sing you home
Chorus 4X

Alfred Tennyson, Lord Tennyson. 1809â1892
Blow, Bugle, blow
THE splendour falls on castle walls
And snowy summits old in story:
The long light shakes across the lakes,
And the wild cataract leaps in glory.
Blow, bugle, blow, set the wild echoes flying, 5
Blow, bugle; answer, echoes, dying, dying, dying.
O hark, O hear! how thin and clear,
And thinner, clearer, farther going!
O sweet and far from cliff and scar
The horns of Elfland faintly blowing! 10
Blow, let us hear the purple glens replying:
Blow, bugle; answer, echoes, dying, dying, dying.
O love, they die in yon rich sky,
They faint on hill or field or river:
Our echoes roll from soul to soul, 15
And grow for ever and for ever.
Blow, bugle, blow, set the wild echoes flying,
And answer, echoes, answer, dying, dying, dying.

Tornadoes and the threat of tornadoes are a key part of the USA's spring weather
because spring brings favorable tornado conditions. Forecasters and researchers
use a wind damage scale called the F scale to classify tornadoes. The ratings
are based on the amount and type of wind damage. The ratings are:
F-0: Light damage. Wind up to 72 mph. F-1: Moderate damage. Wind 73-112 mph.
F-2: Considerable damage. Wind 113-157 mph. F-3: Severe damage. Wind 158-206
mph. F-4: Devastating damage. Wind 207-260 mph. F-5: Incredible damage. Wind
above 261 mph.

The Dead
By Rupert Brooke
BLOW out, you bugles, over the rich Dead!
Thereâs none of these so lonely and poor of old,
But, dying, has made us rarer gifts than gold.
These laid the world away; poured out the red
Sweet wine of youth; gave up the years to be 5
Of work and joy, and that unhoped serene
That men call age; and those who would have been
Their sons they gave, their immortality.
Blow, bugles, blow! They brought us, for our dearth,
Holiness, lacked so long, and Love, and Pain. 10
Honor has come back, as a king, to earth,
And paid his subjects with a royal wage;
And Nobleness walks in our ways again;
And we have come into our heritage.
