[BrianWall-ChessList] Fishing Pole at the DCC

Chris Peterson is a 20 year old that has lived with me off and on the last
couple of years. He knows a lot of my Chess ideas. Billy Wilson has been on my
email list a long time - He plays the Gay Vulture and other openings I write
about. Billy Wilson is a young handsome, married guy that teaches at Regis - he
has an enthusiastic Chess program there too.

This is a fairly well played Fishing Pole - typically Black makes many mistakes
but wins anyway.

Denver Chess Club
1st Presbyterian Church

Tuesday night
June 19, 2008
Game/75

White - Billy Nelson, the White Knight

Black - Chris Peterson, the Dark Lord

  1. d4 Nf6 2. Nf3 g6 3. Nc3 d5 4. Bf4 Bg7 5. e3 O-O 6. Be2 c5
  7. Qd2 Nc6 8. O-O-O c4 9. Ne5 Nb4 10. h4 Bf5 11. a3 a5!?

Queenside Fishing Pole, although 11 ... N:c2!!-a1-b3+ is an easy win

Peterson's idea is sound -
12 ab ab 13 Nb1 b3!! ( 13 ... Qb6! and ... c3! are OK )
crashing through on c2, a1 and b1

Billy can try ninja distraction techniques with g4 or e4 at
various points but smoke and mirrors aren't enough to blunt
a Fishing Pole.

12. g4 Bxc2!! Best
13. axb4 Bxd1!! Best
14. Nxd1! Best Ne4!! Best
15. Qe1! Best f6!! Best
16. Nf3! Best Qb6

Pretty good - 4th best by a small margin
16 ... e5!!! or ... Re8!! or ... ab!!
are slightly better -

17. Nd2

17 b5! keeps Peterson's rook out for a while but
17 b5 Q:b5 followed by a Queenside pawn wave seems
ultimately hopeless for Billy.

17 ... axb4!! 18. Nxe4 Ra1+!! 19. Kc2! e5

Very strong - only 19 ... b3+ is stronger

20. Bg3 exd4!!

Best again

21. exd4

getting checkmated but the position
has become a disaster anyway

21 ... b3+!! 22. Kd2! Qxd4+

(White resigns) 0-1

Checkmate next move -
well played by both sides -
Congratulations to Chris -
he found most of the killer shots.
Billy found many best moves too but
nothing works against the Pole.
