I have been offering the Espagnol Fishin' Pol' as Black ever since I
first read Brian Wall's messages on the subject, but not one opponent
would co-operate by playing 5. h3. Then, as White, in a Queen's Pawn
game (shock, horror!), the chance presented itself. Black's defence is
far from ideal but the interesting feature of the game is that I had
to provide the fish before dangling the pole.

[Black "NN"]

1. d4?? d6?! 2. c4?! h6?? 3. e4! Nf6 4. Nc3 e6? 5. Nf3 Be7 6. Bd3 O-O

I liked my position: Black's pieces and pawns hadn't done anything to
annoy me and my Bishops were aimed at his King. Then I noticed I was
walking beside a lake

7. h4!!

so I threw in a bagful of fish!

I had no intention of playing a silly move such as 8.d5??

8. Ng5!!

Fishing pole! With juicy bait attached!

8

A bite! And it's a big one!

9. hxg5!

Hook!

And sinker!
