 Subject: [UnorthodoxChessOpenings] Polish-English Gambit

Monday nite I was at Liliha Square in Honolulu at an informal chess
club and I torched both Chet Gionson (Hawaii State Co Champion 2006
and about 2100–2200 in strength) & my student Fred with my Polish
Sicilian Gambit (1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 b5) in 5 minute blitz games. Actually
it was not easy for both players to attack the Black setup. The game
does not resemble any kind of Sicilian Defense game. Fred said that
it resembled a Ruy Lopez type of formation. It seems that you can
throw the opening book out on the Sicilian for this opening. I had
thought about this opening and saw some similarities with the
Blumenfeld Counter Gambit. It is probably a good opening gambit to
play in a blitz game. Over ten years ago I had played the Polish
Sicilian Gambit at the Fan Shop chess club and took down IM Ben Deng
with this gambit in a blitz game. Everyone in the club was watching
the game. Anyway before the night was over I had thought about a new
gambit from the White side. What if you played the Polish Sicilian
Gambit from the White side and called it the Polish English Gambit.
Anyway I recently ran a 2 game match between Glaurung 2-e5 and
Aristarch both of which are about 2600+ strength. I was shocked when
the White side won both games. I had expected Glaurung to win both
games because it is the stronger chess engine. Maybe the Polish
Gambit is sound and playable. See games below.

Best Regards
