Every April Fool's I announce a winner to anyone who drops a Queen and still

1. d4 f5 2. e4 d6
Balogh's defense
3. Nc3! Nf6! 4. Bd3 e6 5. Bg5 h6 6. Bxf6! Qxf6!
7. exf5 exf5! 8. Qd2 Bd7 9. O-O-O Nc6 10. Nd5!! Qd8!
11. Re1+ Be7 12. Qe2 Kf7 13. Bc4!! Kf8!! 14.
h4 Bf6 15. Nf4!! Ne7! 16. Nf3!! c6 17. Be6 Ke8 18. Ng5!!
Brilliant Fishing Pole Attack.
18 ... Bxe6 19. Nfxe6
19 Ng:e6 is twice as strong but I admire Chris
for leaving his Fishing Pole knight hanging.
Bravo.
19 ... Qc8 20. Nxg7+!! Kd7 21. Qe6+!! Kc7!
22. Qxf6!! Nd5! 23. N5e6+!! Kb6! 24. Nxf5??
Chris pondered for 3 minutes ( a record for him )
over which piece should capture on f5.
The strongest idea is 24 Qf7 and then 25 N:f5
but Chris forgot his Queen was hanging.
24 ... Nxf6
Picking up a free Queen.
Chris has a knight, two pawns and a safer King.
25 Rh3 is about equal
25 Re5 is a little better for Walter
25. Nxd6 Qd7 26. Nc4+!! Kb5! 27. Na3+=
27 Re5+ Nd5 28 Ne3 is about equal too.
27 ... Kb6= 28. Nc4+= Kb5=
Walter Scmidt begged for the draw a Queen up
but Chris is too mad at himself to concede it.
29. Re5+!!
for courage and perspicacity -
avoiding a perpetual and keeping
the game alive and fairly even too.
29 ... Nd5!! 30. Nc5
I know the feeling well of preferring a loss to a draw.
30 Na3 or Ne3 are about even.
30 ... Qg4!!
Winning for Walter.
31. Rd1 Kxc4!!
Winning for Walter.
32. a4
Chris is creating imaginary mating nets in his head.
32 ... Qf4+ 33. Kb1! Qxe5
one of many winning moves,
simplifying.
34. b3+!! Kc3??
34 ... Kb4 is an easy win.
35. dxe5! Kb4! 36. Nd3+ Kc3?
36 ... Ka5 and Ka3 win
37. Nc1
Luckily for Chrissy,
Walter has only one possible defense,
37 ... Kb4!!
37 ... Rae8???????????????????????????
38. Na2#
