Tim -

Did you read the article in this month's chess life where they interviewed the
coaches?

Brian -
Yes, I was particularly interested when one coach said a woman will not study
by herself for three hours. I find that women prefer to learn in a social
setting rather than self-study. That doesn't apply to the top women but in
general it seems to be true. I think it is the main thing that holds them back.
Maybe it seems boring and unproductive or weird to them.

Tim -
I was surprised at how their attitude in general seemed to be - it is almost
impossible for adults to improve.

Brian-
Adults can improve just fine if they will let go of their egos and stupid ideas
a bit and be willing to be humble and go through painful changes again.

Tim -
I just watched Gone with the Wind for the first time this past week. It will be
funny when Rhett Langseth gets older and he can tell girls
"Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn!"

Pete Short's email about Andy Rea was fricken hilarious.

Brian -
Anthea has been laughing for 5 years about the time Andy Rea was
at the Levy Memorial giving advice to
everyone in the room and Steve Towbin and I said-
Andy is giving a post-mortem simul.

Tim -
Speaking of grinding out one pawn advantages, here is my game against Joe Pahk
from last night.  You are right about his use of time.

Brian -
I saw Joe at the mall serving sushi, I think. Joe is a speed demon incapable
of moving slowly. Recording the time spent and blunder checking with a computer
should cure that disease. He moves pieces like he slings hash, like the next
customer is waiting.
