1. e4 c5 2. Bc4
I noticed soemthing funny lately - people will play a bad opening if
you give it a cute name. This is my third Bowlder Attack, an opening
I would despise without a name. I have three victories from three
lousy positions.

The Bowlder attack is all I play against the Sicilian (although
sometimes I'll transpose and play 2.Nf3, 3.Bc4, and a couple of
times I've played 2.f4). It has sometimes given me very good
positions against players a lot stronger than I am (which I then go
on to stuff up, but that's another problem).

2 ... Nc6 3. Nf3 e6 4. Nc3 a6 5. a4 Nf6
I am not going to hide behind a computer this game but as far as I
can tell this completely refutes the Bowlder Attack.

This is why I don't play 5.a4?! It's fine if Black wants to keep
developing his pawns... white should be trying to develop pieces with
5.d4 (I believe after the thematic move for black 5...b5 then 6.d5!?
is still better for white).

Brian Wall -
after 1 e4 c5 2 Bc4 Nc6 3 Nf3 e6 4 Nc3 a6 5 d4!! b5 6 d5!! Nd4
7 Bd3, Be2 or Bf1 are better for White -
Thanx for the assist, Tristrom!
This is good news for the Croation Harvard Square blitzer Dean Mitrovich
