Brian,
Thanks for paying tribute to Andy. I remember Andy
once gave me the benefit of his post-game analysis
after I sat across him on board one in Colorado
Springs in round one when he caused more damage to the
English than the Germans did at Dunkirk.
-It was very enlightening to hear how many ways he was
winning.
-It was also refreshing to understand how many
different times I made a move that was easily refuted.
-I thought it was beneficial to understand, that I, a
C Player, was losing after 1.c4, to him, a once master
strength Expert.
-It was also uplifting to realize that what at first
seemed like coaching advice for future games turned
into Andy reliving his victory by further
demonstrating variations and themes I did not play
would have resulted in his also winning round 1.
-This I am sure would have filled the remaining 2
hours between rounds had not Shannon Fox (the only
other Colorado player with GM level post-mortem
strength) not intervened and told me to blow off the
revisionist history lesson and go to lunch with him.
Fortunately, Shannon was able to fill the slack time
at lunch with post-mortem analysis of his own game so
the time was not wasted.
