I attended the Denker fundraiser in Colorado Springs, April 7, 2007 to raise
money for Kaila Smith and Tyler Hughes. It is always a special pleasure to meet
a student in the last round - usually Tyler Hughes, Robert Ramirez or Josh
Bloomer gives me a special parental feeling when we meet at the end because I
spent so much Chess time with them. I have been working with Anthea Carson
since January so it was a real feeling of joy when, instead of discussing Chess
over her mother's card table we were paired in the last round. Anthea overcame
adversity ( some jerk smashed in her driver front window in her minivan during
Round 3 ) to beat Buck Buchanan, the Father of Colorado Chess, a life CSCA
member and a former Chessmaster. After 3 rounds only Anthea and I had perfect
scores - final result - Brian 4-0, Anthea, Buck 3-1 tied for second.
Tyler Hughes could not attend his own fundraiser due to Easter obligations.
I hope his basket is filled with many chocolate bunnies tonight.
Kaila Smith played in a concurrent Lee Simmons tournament next door. It is
wonderful to watch so many kids play so much Chess in Colorado Springs due to
the efforts of Lee, Duwayne Langseth, Walter Smith, Francis and others. They
put the much larger Denver to shame. I cheered as Kaila Smith, Josh Devine and
Rhett Langseth won trophies along with many others like Alex Jensen, Cameron
Jenson, another Devine brother, some Lashleys and I forget who else, it looked
like
about 30 trophies. I particularly enjoyed each child posing for a picture and
some 12th graders looking 4 times bigger than the 3rd graders.
Here is what cool Kaila did to handsome Rhett Langseth.

Males have trouble taking females seriously -
Rhett has been grabbing the maximun amount of material
while Kaila has been aiming for the maximum amount
of development. Which is greater in this world,
that which you can see or that which you can feel?
Rhett is about to get the answer loud
and clear in this modern morality play.

Here you can see the full power of the Danish bishops -
the b2-bishop threatens 11 Q:g7 checkmate
and the c4-bishop prevents 10 ... f6, blocking.
Rhett could find nothing better than handing over
pieces fruitlessly in order to avoid
becoming Kaila's single digit bitch.
